Someone Has Finally Tallied Up All the Maybach Logos on the SL680 So You Don't Have To | Carscoops
Those who invest a minimum of $224,900 in the SL680 Monogram will serve as mobile advertisements for the Maybach brand.
Reviewers have noted the presence of numerous Maybach logos throughout the exterior.
These logos can be found on the hood, roof, grille, interior, and even in the headlights.
Pricing begins at $224,900, with costs easily exceeding $250,000 when additional options are selected.
For a few years, Maybach operated in a unique niche, discreetly manufacturing luxurious sedans aimed at the same clientele looking for a Rolls-Royce Phantom. This changed when it became a sub-brand of Mercedes, branching into the SUV and 4×4 market with models like the G650 Landaulet and the GLS 600.
Now, it has further extended its ultra-luxury lineup with the addition of a high-end convertible known as the SL680. Mercedes is ensuring that there is no uncertainty about its origins.
Excessive Branding. Seriously.
Mercedes-Maybach introduced the SL680 Monogram last year, and it certainly makes an impact. However, as Car & Driver recently found during their evaluation of the exclusive convertible, the German brand may have taken the branding a bit too far with the sheer number of Maybach logos on the vehicle.
After spending some time with the car, C&D took it upon themselves to count how many Maybach logos they could find. The staggering result? A total of 835, excluding digital displays such as the instrument cluster or infotainment screen.
Most of these logos are prominently displayed on the black hood of the SL680, the folding fabric roof, and the blacked-out lower grille. There are also numerous logos throughout the car's interior, including one on the engine cover. Some logos may have been overlooked in this count, as there are also small Maybach logos embedded in the headlights.
Tasteful or Tacky?
It's clear what Mercedes intended with the design of the SL680 Monogram. They seem to have drawn inspiration from Louis Vuitton, which has long offered handbags adorned with numerous LV logos.
However, it’s debatable whether this method is effective for a luxury vehicle, as it may detract from the intended high-end appeal of automotive luxury.
The SL680's powertrain also leaves something to be desired. It features the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the standard SL63, providing 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.
Additionally, the price is significant. American customers will need to pay at least $224,900 to own an SL680 Monogram, not accounting for options that can easily drive the total cost over $250,000.
