General Motors is recalling the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Hummer EV due to safety issues.

The Hummer models have a faulty connection that may prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying. Additionally, some Silverado owners are being called back to the dealership because of missing tape.

GM has announced two new recalls affecting a total of 1,245 vehicles, highlighting serious safety concerns despite the relatively small number.

The first recall involves 354 units of the 2026 GMC Hummer Pickup and SUV, which may face an issue with the front passenger airbag that could fail to deploy.

The government agency reported that the connection for the front passenger airbag may have an improper wire crimp, affecting the signals sent to the airbag, potentially preventing deployment as intended.

GM became aware of the problem in August when an employee noticed a wire had come loose from the passenger front airbag connector during assembly. This led to an investigation revealing that the wire harness supplier had used a manual crimping process for three days while their automated machine was down. The hand-crimped connections were found to be inconsistent and likely not secure.

To resolve this issue, dealers will install a jumper harness that replaces the segment of the IP harness containing the passenger front airbag connector. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent out on December 22.

The second recall pertains to 891 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD vehicles from the 2019 and 2020 model years, addressing a problem linked to a previous recall.

Originally recalled this summer due to issues with the brake pressure sensor assembly, there was a risk of brake fluid leaking past the diaphragm seal, potentially entering electrical components and causing a short circuit.

Unfortunately, these vehicles were repaired using a brake jumper wire harness that did not include protective tape. This absence can lead to wire damage, resulting in the brake system failing to provide necessary assistance.

The solution is straightforward: dealership technicians will remove the wire harness, apply protective tape, and then reinstall it. Owners will receive notifications shortly before Christmas.
