Edmunds has named the Corvette ZR1 the fastest gas-powered vehicle they have ever tested.
The ZR1 finished the U-Drag run in 28.9 seconds, achieving a speed of 159.6 mph.
It also completed a quarter-mile in 10.0 seconds at a speed of 144.1 mph on untreated asphalt.
The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has made its mark by ranking near the top of Edmunds' performance metrics, achieving the fastest U-Drag test time of any gas-powered car they have tested. It fell just short of two high-performance electric sedans, which seem to defy the laws of physics in their rivalry against traditional combustion vehicles.
Nonetheless, Chevrolet’s new powerhouse surpassed some of Europe’s most renowned models and became the quickest C8 Corvette that Edmunds has ever evaluated.

In the testing, the ZR1 accelerated to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.7 seconds, completed the quarter-mile in exactly 10.0 seconds at 144.1 mph (231.9 km/h), and achieved a peak cornering force of 1.38g.
The complete U-Drag circuit (there and back) was finished in just 28.9 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 159.6 mph (256.8 km/h). All of this was done in Track Mode with the Performance Traction Management system activated, ensuring the 1,064-hp vehicle maintained grip on the road.
U-DRAG LEADERBOARD
As displayed on the leaderboard above, only two vehicles have surpassed the ZR1's time on Edmunds' chart, both of which are electric.
The Lucid Air Sapphire is currently in the lead with an impressive time of 27.9 seconds at 163.3 mph (262.8 km/h), a remarkable achievement given its weight and luxury features. Close behind is the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which managed a run of 28.8 seconds at 155.9 mph (250.9 km/h).
Vehicles that the Corvette surpassed include the Tesla Model S Plaid with a time of 29.3 seconds, and both the McLaren 765LT and McLaren 750S, which posted identical times of 29.6 seconds. The ZR1 is also faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which clocked in at 30.8 seconds.
Completing the top 10 tested cars are the Corvette Z06, Corvette ZR1, and BMW M8 Competition Coupe, which recorded times of 31.3 seconds, 31.7 seconds, and 32 seconds, respectively.
"Edmunds U-Drags was created to go beyond conventional drag racing and provide a more extensive assessment of a vehicle's performance," said Alistair Weaver from Edmunds.
"It’s a fun yet highly competitive format. To excel, a vehicle must handle stopping and cornering as well as accelerating. We received numerous requests from Edmunds U-Drags fans to evaluate the Corvette ZR1, and it lived up to expectations. This 1,064-hp, mid-engine powerhouse is now the fastest gas car we've ever tested, surpassing exotic models that cost twice as much."
A Faster Corvette
While the ZR1 is impressively quick, it is not the fastest Corvette available. That title belongs to the all-wheel-drive, twin-turbo V8 hybrid ZR1X, which produces 1,250 hp.
Chevrolet asserts that it can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in under two seconds and finish the quarter-mile in less than nine seconds. If Edmunds gets the chance to test one, it may force the Lucid Air Sapphire to relinquish its title.
