The CLA has arrived, and with the help of our keen spy photographer, we already know that Mercedes-Benz is developing a new GLA. Additionally, thanks to Mercedes itself, we're getting a look at the new GLB, which is not camouflaged by typical means, but instead by frost—yes, the classic frozen water. This is certainly a new approach.
The frost buildup comes from cold-weather testing conducted in a climate-controlled wind tunnel. While this is quite interesting, the exterior reveal pales in comparison to what Mercedes is showcasing for the new GLB’s interior. Beneath the icy exterior, we see a fully revealed cabin with a dashboard featuring an impressive array of screens.
This is the optional “Superscreen” setup (distinct from the Hyperscreen found in more upscale models). Mercedes hasn't provided specific details beyond confirming the name, but the images indicate we have matching main and passenger displays along with a third, slightly smaller instrument panel in front of the steering wheel.
Mercedes also took the chance to highlight the new GLB's interior ambient lighting, featuring star-pattern LEDs in the sunshade of the panoramic roof. Although the GLB is classified as a subcompact SUV, its thoughtful design accommodates a practical third row, which is also visible in the accompanying gallery.
The substantial layer of frost on the prototype’s exterior effectively obscures the body, but it’s evident that the compact MPV retains its elevated rear roofline—essential for fitting taller individuals in that third row. The snowflake-pattern wheels add a nice detail here. Clearly, someone was attentive to the design.
