The redesign features sharper styling borrowed from the Sentra and Murano.

An updated 1.6-liter engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) remain in place to ensure affordability.

Future manufacturing will shift to Nissan's Aguascalientes plant.

Rumors about the Nissan Versa's discontinuation have persisted for years, yet this humble small sedan continues to thrive. In the first nine months of this year, Nissan has sold 41,463 units in the U.S., marking a 41.5 percent increase compared to 2024. These figures underscore that America's most affordable new car remains vibrant, a fact not lost on Nissan.

Earlier this year, the company announced plans to unveil over 14 new and refreshed models by 2027, which includes a redesigned Versa sedan.

While this product preview paired the sedan with an updated NP300 Navara for Latin America, it's still possible that the Versa will remain available in the United States. Let’s explore what features might be included in this revamped subcompact.

      Sharper Design

Nissan teased the new Versa earlier this year.

The styling of the 2027 Versa’s significant facelift takes cues from the completely redesigned Sentra and Murano crossover, presenting an eye-catching new front with split-level daytime running lights (DRLs) and a bold, contrasting grille.

Most panels are entirely new, though the greenhouse and roof remain unchanged. The body design is cleaner and more streamlined, trading curves for sharper lines and distinct wheel arch details, while larger diamond-cut alloy wheels improve its overall stance.

The rear of the vehicle features a trunk with an integrated lip spoiler and a squared-off bumper to enhance aerodynamics.

      Interior Improvements

The new Versa is expected to incorporate several features from the recently refreshed 2026 Sentra.

Industry reports suggest that a new digital instrument cluster and infotainment system may be introduced, promising quicker input processing and sharper visuals. Additionally, enhancements in cabin materials and ergonomics are anticipated to elevate the overall ambiance and functionality compared to the current model.

A standard suite of driver assists under Nissan’s ‘Safety Shield’ program is likely to be retained, with higher trims possibly receiving a 360-degree bird’s-eye view with moving object detection. Chassis modifications may include increased rigidity and adjusted suspension tuning for better ride comfort.

      Familiar Engine Options

In terms of powertrains, a mildly revised 1.6-liter petrol engine is expected to carry over, along with the Xtronic CVT as the only transmission option.

Earlier this year, Nissan phased out the five-speed manual transmission for the current Versa, noting that only 5 percent of sales were for manual variants. Therefore, it is unlikely that a manual option will reappear.

Given its designation as Nissan's most affordable sedan, hybrid or electric versions are not expected. This represents a significant facelift rather than an entirely new design, and maintaining low costs continues to be the Versa's hallmark.

      Competition and Production

Once amidst a competitive landscape featuring the Mitsubishi Mirage, Mazda2, and Toyota Yaris, the Versa now stands alone in the American subcompact sedan segment.

Its primary competitor now comes from within the brand in the form of the taller Kicks crossover, yet it still maintains a price advantage at $17,390.

Currently, the car is manufactured at Nissan’s CIVAC plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico. However, due to plans to reduce global production capacity, this facility will close in 2026, resulting in Versa production being transferred to the Aguascalientes plant.
