US sales increased by 21% in April, but Mazda is facing significant tariff risks as 81% of its vehicles are imported.

Mazda recorded its second-highest April sales in the United States, indicating a strong month for the brand.

Sales jumped 21% as buyers rushed to purchase vehicles before expected price increases took effect.

Tariffs are a considerable threat to Mazda, given its heavy dependence on imports.

With President Trump's tariffs likely to cause price increases, consumers have been eager to make major purchases. Several automakers have benefited from this surge, including Mazda, which saw its April sales rise 21% compared to the previous year. The company sold 37,660 vehicles, with the aging CX-5 emerging as the top seller at 12,590 units.

The CX-50 also performed well, with sales soaring by 48.4% to 7,753 units. Similarly, the CX-90 experienced a 46.2% increase, with 5,402 crossovers sold. The latter model achieved its best April sales on record, while the CX-30 and CX-50 had their second-best performance for this month.

Additionally, Mazda reported strong interest in certified pre-owned models, with April sales rising by 9% as 6,855 units were sold.

Overall, Mazda had its second-best April sales ever in the United States. While this is positive news, the future may be challenging since the brand heavily relies on imports.

A previous analysis has shown that 81% of Mazda vehicles are imported, making them the third most vulnerable automaker after Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo. As a result, tariffs could severely affect the company in the near term, although the situation is still evolving.
